I recorded this in Rio. I call it podcast 42 or 43 depending on how you count the stretch, and the subject is focus. The one thing. I also talk about transcending pickup, which sounds grand and is actually practical. Pickup as a hobby that eats every hour will stall the man. The work has to sit inside a life that can still concentrate.
You already know the distraction list. The phone. The second project. The third city. The extra girl you are texting so you do not have to feel the main effort. Each one is reasonable alone. Together they take the hours the main thing needed. Focus is subtraction. I push the phone aside and I write, which is the cover, because the session does not survive an open screen.
The one thing, for the period you are in, gets the real block of time. Not the leftover twenty minutes. If game is the thing, the approaches happen before the errands. If the business is the thing, the calls happen before you reward yourself with a session on the street. Men reverse this and then announce they are bad at both.
Rio is just where I was standing when I said it. The city does not do the focusing for you. If anything, a good city offers more distractions with better weather. The discipline is the same as it would be at a desk.
Pick the one thing for this month. Give it a block you can point to. Let the other ambitions wait until that block is finished. The episode is me being blunt about what happens when you refuse to.
