I am reviewing The Close in this episode, the chapter on what it actually takes. The list is not mysterious. Patience. Reflection. Persistence. Momentum. And effort at a multiple that most men will not accept. I say ten times. I mean it as the amount of work, not as a slogan to print.

Mastery gets sold as a trick you were missing. The chapter is ruder than that. You need patience because the early months are mostly evidence that you are bad. You need reflection because repeating a bad set without looking at it is just exercise. You need persistence because the feeling of being bad arrives on schedule and leaves only if you stay. Momentum is what shows up after the persistence has already been paid for. You cannot start with momentum. You arrive there.

The ten times part is where men argue. They want the result of a man who has done the volume, on the schedule of a man who has done a weekend. The episode is me going through why that trade never clears. Coaching a student into the conversation, which is the cover, only works if he is willing to take the volume after the session ends.

Read the chapter with the episode, or hear the episode and then open the book. I am walking the requirements in the order they actually bite. If you skip patience and try to buy momentum, you will quit at the first flat week and call the method broken.

It takes those things. The list is short because the work is long.
