First, read everything about seduction. Then memorise the routines. Become a social butterfly, travel the world, build an impressive body, get a better job and find a magnificent flat. Once you have finished all that, you can finally talk to a woman.

Sounds reasonable, doesn't it? That is the trap.

I spend the opening of this episode laying out that plan because so much of it sounds sensible in isolation. Put together, it becomes a very elaborate way of postponing the thing you actually wanted to do.

Start with the activity

If you want to meet women, start meeting women. You do not need to solve your entire life before introducing yourself to somebody you find attractive.

This is the inversion in the episode. Take the long list of prerequisites and turn it around. Begin with approaching. Get enough experience that the next thing you learn answers a problem you have actually encountered.

Otherwise you can become an expert in imaginary situations. You know twelve replies to an objection you have never heard, but cannot make yourself say hello on the way home.

The basic action exposes that gap immediately. There is very little glamour in it, which may explain why it keeps getting buried beneath more exciting advice.

Make the practical arrangements good enough

Logistics matter because they determine whether you can practise and arrange dates without making every interaction a major expedition.

But good enough is different from perfect. You do not need a penthouse in the most expensive part of town before you can have a dating life. You need arrangements that work for the kind of socialising you want to do.

Look at travel time, where you can meet and whether continuing a date is practical if you both want to. Solve the actual inconvenience. Do not attach a luxury lifestyle to it and then declare the whole thing unaffordable.

Improve your appearance while you live

You can dress decently now and continue improving your fitness and style. You do not need to put dating on hold until you have achieved an imaginary finished version of yourself.

The same applies to travel and stories. Travel because you want to travel, or because a location offers better opportunities for your life. You do not need to collect exotic experiences just to manufacture a more impressive conversation.

A man can tell a story about a private jet and sound unbearable. An ordinary experience told with confidence can be far more engaging. Buying the scenery will not necessarily fix the delivery.

Learn a few useful things well

My advice is to keep the initial material small. Know how you will introduce yourself, express interest and suggest continuing the interaction when that interest is returned. Then practise enough that you stop trying to remember a script word by word.

The Chemistry of Seduction gives you material to study, but studying is supposed to support the interaction. It should not become another reason to remain at home.

There are many worthwhile things you can work on in life. The mistake is declaring all of them mandatory before you begin the one that scares you.

Choose a straightforward place to start, make your arrangements workable and go out. You can improve the rest while you are getting actual experience. Readiness is a terrible deadline because your mind can keep moving it forever.
